If you stumbled on this page then I can tell you that’s I’m a Stand-up Comedian, Actor and Writer.
If you purposely found this page then you saw me at a gig, or on the telly, or you’ve read something I’ve written, found a tweet or seen a pic on instagram.
I’m in Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival doing a show this year from August 2nd till August 26th. It’s a new show called Gareth Berliner : I paid for 50 minutes of your time. I’ve decided this year to be even more honest with my audience. Hence the title. Given the money I’ve spent for doing this show it’s not about how good I am..it’s about how good the audience is that I’ve essentially paid for ; ).
You may not be aware but performing at Edinburgh Fringe doesn’t necessarily pay the bills…in fact it creates them!
We performers have to pay to be at the fringe. Our accomodation, flyers, posters, venue and more and it doesn’t come cheap. My costs this year for my show are now over 2 thousand pounds! Gulp! and my show is free entry! I’ll never get rich in this game!
I do however do a bucket collection for cash at the end of the show and obviously that’s where you hope to earn some of your costs back. However Edinburgh is also about networking, being seen and picking up more work off the back of it. Also it’s like University for comics. No matter how well you are doing as a comedian you see lots of stuff, feel inspired and also get a bit of a kick up the arse as competition is fierce.
I’ve been performing stand-up comedy for 12 years professionally and perform all over the UK and in Europe as well as Internationally .
As a Stand-up I’ve performed at and taken successful solo shows to comedy fringe festivals both Nationally and Internationally
As an Actor I’ve been in Coronation Street, Doctor Who, Eastenders and The Bastard Executioner.
As a Stand-up and Public Speaker I’ve performed corporate / private gigs for, amongst others ;
Motability, The Conservative Party, The Liberal Democrat Party, Fresenius Kabi Homecare, The International Institute of Disabled Lawyers, The Institute of Actuaries, Mayor Boris Johnson, The Liberty Festival, The Samaritans, NHS Taunton, NHS Surrey, The London School of Economics, Imperial College London, Graeae Theatre Company. Oxford University and more.
